Sleep.....
As you saw in the post from right after Thanksgiving, sleep has been the big issue around here lately. The week after Thanksgiving I vowed to get Bethany sleeping in her crib for naps. So that Tuesday (she had her shots on Monday) I started rocking her and putting her in her crib. She had no trouble going down but wouldn't sleep for more than a half an hour or so at a time. Still, I was happy she was sleeping in her crib. Well on Friday afternoon, I tried doing the same thing I had been doing all week and she screamed and screamed and screamed. Same verse same as the first on Saturday, Sunday, Monday.... Um, there is no way this is happening to me!!! Aaaaahhhhh!
This sent me into an anxiety filled quest for solutions. I posted a note about it on facebook and got 24 replies. 24 different opinions!! Aaaaahhh! So, like any obsessive new parent, I went and bought every suggested book, and a humidifier, oh and a Rainforest Crib soother (which I promptly broke- a story for another day). You can ask Tom to verify, but I talked about and thought about nothing else but Bethany's naps for a good week and a half.
And then, it happened, the Heavens opened wide, and poured out their many blessings upon me. Ok, maybe it wasn't that dramatic but it was a relief to say the least. I started reading "Secrets of the Baby Whisperer." I could feel myself relaxing as I read it. Maybe because the author kept referring to me as "luv"? More likely because I was reading about a solution that resonated with me and what I knew about my child. So yesterday we started it.
It follows this routine:
E-Eat
A-Activity
S-Sleep
Y-You time while she sleeps.
Rinse and Repeat. Wait, no rinse, just repeat! : )
E.A.S.Y..... And so far it has been fairly easy. After learning that I was feeding her when she was actually tired, learning to recognize and act promptly on her tired cues, and establishing a good naptime routine, we are well on our way to naptime bliss. We still use the paci but one thing at a time right? I am just thrilled that's she's napping, and in her crib no less!!! In fact, she's there right now.
So, keep your fingers crossed!
Other than the sleep issue, things are going really well! We will be heading to Lakeland for Christmas and are excited about that. And our friends Jessica and Andrew had their baby at the beginning of the month. Bethany is excited about her new little friend Nathan! My middle school group is going well, although we sadly had to say goodbye to one of the girls who is moving to VA this week.
Hope all of you are having a Chrismtas this year!
