Sleep and the Smelly Mystery
Because it's all I think about....another sleep post
Well, the E.A.S.Y. routine is definitely one that I like. And it has stretched her feedings from every two hours to every three. I definitely can reconize tired cues now. But we have yet to conquer falling asleep on her own and staying asleep longer than 45 minutes. I am still rocking her, putting paci in, waiting until she's asleep and then putting her in the crib. When she cries I replace the paci and hope she goes back to sleep. The Baby Whisper solution for getting them to fall asleep on their own doesn't work well for us so that's out and we're back to the drawing board. Here's what I want to know:
1. Is it ok they way things are going? Should I just leave it as is? She sleeps so well at night- last night almost 11 hours without waking up. I don't want to mess that up. She still seems generaly happy during the day and I don't mind too much having to occasionaly drive her around or take her into my bed during the day for her to get a good nap. But will she need these props until she's 5? When do I need to make a change?
2. If I do need to make a change- how do I do it? We are seriously considering Ferber (letting her cry and going in at intervals to reassure her). But I am so scared that this will mess up her nighttime sleep.
I know there's no easy answer, I just wish there was. And I fear that this will be the regular course of parenthood- making tough decisions. Only the consequences get bigger the bigger they get. But for now, I keep reminding myself that I haven't seen any 28 year olds recently who still need a paci and their mom rocking them to fall asleep.
After all the boring sleep stuff, would you like a funny story?
So, for the past few weeks we've been smelling something kind off "off" in our kitchen. It kept getting stronger and stronger. We finally isolated it to one of the cupboards. When you picked up a plate, the plate had that smell. But how did the plates get that smell? Maybe a bad dishwasher cycle? So I washed all the plates and bowls again and we ate off of paper plates for a day. Tom refused to eat off the regular plates until the smelly mystery was solved. So, with the plates cleaned, and the smell stronger than ever, we still didn't know. So, Tom started taking everything out of the cupboard. This cupboard is also where our china is stored. He pulled out the creamer from the China set and started yelling- "Aaaaaah, this is it, this is it." It looked like butter- but it was acutally the creamer for the coffee, ON THANKSGIVING DAY!!!!! Smelly mystery solved!
