Trick or Treat

I was looking for something on this blog the other day and loved reading through what our kids were like at different times. So, I decided maybe I should blog a little more again. We'll see how that goes...

Halloween 2013

Bethany did not waiver at all in her desire to be Minnie Mouse. We ordered her costume from the Disney Store and it was adorable and held up through a day at school for "Favorite TV character day", 2 dress up days at gymnastics, and trick or treating.  At gymnastics, when my friend told her that she was such a cute Minnie Mouse she responded, "I know, people have been telling me that all day." :)

Our small group and my in laws came over for a party and trick or treating. It was fun to see the kids holding hands, going from house to house. Bethy finally got the hang of saying Trick or Treat and remembering to say thank you so she started saying "I said BOTH!" as she would walk back to us. She must have asked me 10 times to feel how heavy her candy bucket was.

After trick or treating she had a blast handing out candy and she outlasted the trick or treaters. We had about 5 pieces of candy left and she wanted to stay out until it was all gone. She was so sweet telling the trick or treaters, "You're welcome. Happy Halloween". It' fun to watch her mature and grow up.

Caleb, with some guidance, picked Bugs Bunny as his costume. He liked it at first but would only wear it for about a minute and a half. So last year's costume (which he wouldn't wear at the time) became this year's costume- Da na na na na na na na na, BATMAN! I got to go to his costume parade at school and he did such a great job. He didn't even need me to walk with him. He's come so far-it's great to see him relax and be able to enjoy things more.

Parties are still pretty overwhelming for him, but he has learned to cope. He colored for a while and then chose to take his dinner and eat in the living room and watch a movie. He was resisting his costume (mainly because he didn't want to wear pants) but after allowing him to change into shorts, he put the batman shirt and cape back on. He made it a pretty good way trick or treating and then started asking to go home. I think it was a couple scary houses that did him in. So Tom took him home and handed out candy. I wish you could hear him saying "trick or treat"- it's very cute!!

All in all a great night. We had chili, baked potatoes, and brownies. The house was filled with giggles, kids, family, friends. Not much better than that!
