Blanket in the face

We went to the pediatrician on Tuesday for Bethany's check-up and I am happy to say that she is doing great! The pediatrician asked if I was feeding her pizza and chicken because, you ready for this?? She weighs..................10 pounds and 8.5 ounces!!!! Remember she was only 6lbs. 12oz. at birth. Holy moly- she's a growing girl! She is also up to 21 1/2 inches long. She is in the 75th percentile across the board which is good because her weight matches her length. The pediatrician said she looked perfect. Of course I already know this...but it's nice to have someone who's spent a whole lot of time in school and seen a whole lot of babies say that mine is perfect!

In other Bethany news, she is now sleeping in her crib. She had been sleeping in the pack and play in our room. But my goal was that by six weeks she would be in her own room. So we made the move on Tuesday night. I think the move was harder on me than on her. Tuesday night, just for my own sanity, I had to get up twice to go check and make sure she was still breathing. Last night I didn't check at all. She is also sleeping a lot better at night these days. Last night she was in bed for good by 10:30, awake again at 2:15, and then not again until 6am. Not too shabby!

So, life with a baby makes for some funny adventures...... Would you like to hear about one?

On Tuesday afternoon, Bethany was quite the fussy baby and daddy was at work all day. So, I decide to take her out to Pier Park (a local shopping area). Maybe a walk wood do us good? So, we got ready to go. Diaper bag- check! Bethany changed and dressed-check! Bethany in car seat and not crying- check! OK, we're ready to go. So we get in the car and head on out. Ahhh, peace and quiet........until five minutes into the drive Bethany decides to start screaming. Not much I can do from the front seat. But the screaming has to stop- what do I do? I decide to roll down the windows for her. Great- she loves it!!! Crying stopped!! As I begin to boast to myself about what a brilliant mother I am and how I have solved my child's problems I glance back in the mirror we have set up to see Bethany in the car, and find that her blanket is now flying up and is plastered to her face (thanks to my brilliant window opening plan). In a panic that I may have just suffocated my child, I pull over and remove the blanket from her face. Still breathing....good! Crisis averted! On to Pier Park we go!

Get there and get her into the stroller just fine. Gotta love that Chicco stroller- it's so easy! We run into a friend who works out there and is on break so she joins us on our walk. My friend Tiffany and I are both more of the indoors type of girls and prefer A/C to sweating outside any day. So, on this sweltering Panama City day, we are anxious to get from store to store to cool off. Bethany, on the other hand, screams every time we enter a store. Not just a little whine; but a lip quivering, howling, make people stop and stare, full out scream! Once we head back out into the oppressive heat, she immediately calms down. Well, at least it kept the shopping to a minimum- who wants to stand in line to buy something when you have a screaming child in tow. One purchase I did manage to make was a slice of cookie cake (his fave) for Tom. I proceeded to drop it.....twice. Even if it doesn't look good anymore, it still tastes the same right?

So after an hour of the "scream inside and calm down outside" game in and out of stores, we packed it up and headed out. Diaper bag in the car- check. Bethany in the car- check. No blankets that could fly in her face-check. Good-we're ready to go. I get about fifteen seconds down the road, look in the rear view mirror and can't see out. I left the trunk open....Sheesh! Next time she's fussy, we'll just stay home!!

We took Bethany out to the beach for the first time:

See those cheeks? That's where she's storing all the pizza we give her!
You gotta love this:

How funny! Remember what happened when I tried to take you out for the first time? The car wouldn't start. At least you didn't have that happen. Hope your appointment went well today.

Great story! :) Wouldn't it be wonderful is you have a little girl with red hair that loves sports and the heat! I think that if that happens, it's God thanking you for some of your good work for the Kingdom! ;) Love you, Katie!
