Caleb Says Caleb
Update from the last post: Caleb went back to sleeping through the night after we told him to fix it himself and had him practice. Simple! Thanks for your help!!
We've been saying for a few weeks that for whatever reason we think we are understanding better and better what Caleb is saying. He is definitely speaking to us as if there is a brain connection between what he wants to say and what is coming out of his mouth. He often gets the vowels close and the right number of syllables. So, within context, you can often figure out what he means. His teacher even mentioned this change. His speech therapist has also been encouraged. The progress seems small sometimes but it really is big and deserves celebration.
He's using his Ipad communication device more and more and he signs also. He's becoming quite the speller and he will often spell things out on the Ipad- mostly people's names at this point. He uses his ipad to answer questions in circle time at school, to ask when we're eating and to tell us what he wants to eat. He tells how he feels, gives us the weather report, and tells us he loves us. I love hearing what he has to say! He also types random things and strains of words or repeats one word over and over, which can be annoying but a necessary evil in him figuring it all out.
He was supposed to have a neurology appt. the other day but I took the wrong route and was late so my almost 6 hours of driving were in vain as they would not see him. And that's all I'll say about that for now...... Caleb got ice cream and pancakes at Cracker Barrell out of the deal and a day one one one Momma time so he was happy as he could be!
Right now Caleb is into puzzles and coloring. He's extroverted and outgoing and will say hi to anyone and everyone unless he sees Bethany being shy, then he follows her lead. He also likes to pretend to put us to bed- covers us with blankets, tells us what time we can get out bed, etc.. He likes playing outside and following his big sister around everywhere she goes. Fortunately, he also likes to repeat what she says which is good for his speech development!
Bethy's doing well too! Allergies have been bad here lately which is never fun for her asthma but it's under control and so much better than it used to be. She is thriving in Pre K and gymnastics. She had her kindergarten pre screening the other day- I CANNOT believe she will be in kindergarten!!!! WHAT?!?! She's into legos, art projects, and baby dolls and loves to be outside. We're all looking forward to a fun summer together!
