Happy 17th Birthday Caleb!
Happy 17th Birthday Caleb!!
- You finished 11th grade, and you work so hard with an incredibly difficult academic load!
- You earned your AP Capstone diploma with an amazing set of AP scores!
- You cold emailed professors at FSU and through that process, you earned a research internship. You are studying the GLP-1 neuron in rat brains with a PhD student and have been able to solve some software issues for them that caused the grad student to call you a "miracle worker." You will continue working on this research through this school year and we are excited to read the published paper when it comes out!
- You were one of only 100 High Schoolers this year chosen for the Disney Dreamers Academy. It was INCREDIBLE!!!
- You were in the SAIL (AP Program), AP Capstone Club, Mu Alpha Theta (Math honor society), ASL Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Beta Club, HOSA, Rho Kappa, Tri M, and marching band.
- You placed first in the HOSA Behavioral Health category at regionals!
- You continued your countywide club called BAM (Bay Area Mathematicians) and organized a trip to Tallahassee to compete in the American Mathematics Competition.
- You are in your 12th year of playing piano and attended your 4th FSU Piano Institute.
- You attend youth group at our church (Abide UMC) and occasionally go with a friend to First UMC. Youth went to Oakwood at Blue Lake with our church youth group and has a great time
- You are almost done with the two years of work on the Congressional Award and hope to attend the award ceremony in DC next spring.
- As part of earning your Congressional Award you planned a week long trip where we visited many of the schools you are interested and visited some amazing places. We toured Harvard, MIT, Princeton, Yale, UPenn, and Johns Hopkins. We had an amazing time!
- You volunteer at the Pearl Project, Beehive Memory Care playing piano, at the library, with the Smithsonian Institute, and as needed with disaster relief projects.
- We lost granddaddy in December and were able to celebrate his amazing life. You are passionate about finding new treatments for dementia and I think that is so wonderful!
- Your plan is to major in neuroscience and you'd like to explore the intersection of music and the brain and see what unexplored treatments may be available to help with degenerative diseases. Your top choice for college is Princeton.
What an incredible year full of challenges and amazing moments! I don't know many people that work harder than you do and yet you still find time to have a great group of friends and to be an incredible part of our family. We are deep into college applications this summer and it is fun to see your thoughts come to life through all the essays you have to write! I am so excited to celebrate you this year as you graduate and to see where you go next! We love you and are so thankful for you!
