Just Kidding
Bethy turned a corner Sunday night and stopped coughing non stop. It was rough there for a bit and I am glad that bout is over! She even went back to school on Monday and our week has been a little bit back to normal. Tom is through the worst of his busiest time at work so that's also helped. We even got to spend the afternoon at the beach/pool at some friends' place on Sunday. I love being with my family!
It's been a while since I've posted about what Bethy's been doing lately and I need to keep a record anyways so here ya go:
She said "Just kidding" today for the first time. She said, "Hurry, faster, faster, a bear's coming...... Just kidding." And then she laughed hysterically. I can't even begin to describe how happy this makes me. It's almost as exciting as her first steps. The ability to make a joke is a good thing and I'm glad we're moving into that realm!
Here's another conversation from today:
Bethy: "I'm sad. You make me happy (as in you need to figure out how to make me happy)."
Me: *I did my hand like a puppet duck and quacked at her*
Bethy: *Barely cracks a smile* "No, I'm still sad."
Me: What can I do to make you happy?
Bethy: A toy

- She is fiercely independent about everything else but won't wipe her own nose so about a 100 times a day you can hear her literally scream "Runny nose" wanting us to wipe it for her. I am working on the whole screaming thing.
- She is really flexible and strong and she likes to "do tricks" so we're thinking gymnastics may be in her future.
- She will fight to the death over a toy. She doesn't mess around- don't even try and take a toy from her. She knows she should share. She knows it makes people sad when you don't share. But she's two..... She'll share on her terms but we're still working on being a good "sharer". It will come......I hope.
- She's in a phase where she gets scared around adults. Even adults she knows. She eventually warms up but she really clams up at first.
- She's totally potty trained except for sleep times.
- She likes taking showers now and often prefers it to a bath.
- She knows her name starts with a "B" and can almost draw the letter herself
- She loves to draw and write and does these very intricate little "scribbles"
- She counts in even numbers only. She almost never says an odd number unless prompted.
- She knows most of her colors. It was really hard for her to learn them and for a long time everything was blue. Yesterday she told me red and blue were the same color. Ok.....
- When she's playing with blocks she's usually building a boat or a house.
- If she picks up a play phone you can be certain who she will call. "Hi Nana. It's me. How you doing? I'm playing my blocks. Ok, bye."
- If we're going to the pool or playground she wants to know if her friends will be there. If there's no one there, she will say she's sad because there's no people there.
- She wants to go to China with us. I wish she could.
- If there is music on, she wants you to dance with her. But usually she has to go put on a princess skirt first.
- She's very stubborn.
- If she's making something with playdough it's usually a "birdie".
- She has a southern accent.
- The most common things we hear each day are: What's that?, How you do that?, What's her/his name?, I'm busy, I'll be right back, Play with me, You want some?, Perfect, Hmmm, interesting, Wanna go outside please, "No, Kanks" (Thanks), "You prince, I'm princess, let's dance"
- Every morning she comes to our room, snuggles with Tom until she's ready to get up and then gets in one of our faces and says, "Wanna play, get up." If you don't respond, she will turn on the light and speak louder.
