Happy 11th Birthday Caleb!!


·        You are 55 inches tall.
·        You finished fifth grade and your teachers were Mrs. Martin, Mrs. Gentry, and Mrs. Sistrunk.
·        You made all As this year.
·        You continue to take piano lessons from Mrs. Emily and you participated in Student Day where you played two prepared pieces, scales, and sight reading. You also took music theory tests. You received highest honors and the judge said, "Wow! I am speechless! Beautifully Performed!" You're moving out of the lesson books and playing longer music pieces now. You fill our house daily with incredible music!
·        We have mostly recovered around here from Hurricane Michael (Oct. 2018)- the only thing we still need at our house is new windows. Our church building (formerly our Fusion campus) is completely renovated and repaired.
·        In March we began dealing with the pandemic (COVID-19). We were headed on spring break when everything started getting shut down. We social distanced in a cabin in Blue Ridge before heading back home. After spring break school never opened back for the year and you participated in distance learning to finish out your fifth grade year. We are still in the middle of the pandemic and hoping it will be under control soon!!




·        You love to play computer games and are especially into Roblox this year. You created something called an Obby which is like an online obstacle course, but you made yours to be like a theme park. You spent many hours creating it and it's really incredible!
·        You still want to be a weatherman when you grow up.
·        Your favorite things to do are: play any type of technology, read, be around your family, stay home, swim, and play piano.
·        You received your Arrow of Light Award in Cub Scouts and also crossed over to Boy Scouts this year.


·        Your birthday party this year is a bit different because of COVID. You are having a friend over today and then in a couple of weeks another friend. Two mini parties and you are very excited! We will swim and play video games!
·        You say you don't have a favorite movie this year.
·        Your favorite show is youtube videos.
·        Your favorite foods are pizza, Utz party mix, spaghetti, and pancakes.
·       We visited Grandma, Grandpa, and Uncle George in Lakeland for Christmas and the Lebedev family in Jacksonville. We also went to Kennedy Space Center and you and Daddy got to go to Space Camp with all the 5th graders from school. We went on vacation to Blue Ridge, GA for spring break and also visited Daddy's extended family in Evans, GA. 

We love the young man you are becoming! You are so easy to get along with and always make us laugh! Even though we've been through a lot in the past few years, you seem to adapt very well and just roll with things. In general you're easy going but you are particular about schedules- you want to know what we're doing and how long it's going to take- you love a schedule and a calendar! You are very neat and tidy and conscientious about your responsibilities. We can't imagine our lives without you and are very happy you're our son! Happy Birthday Caleb Shen Lai!!!

We knew all weeked that the new list was coming out on Monday night. I got more and more nervous as we got closer. By Tuesday morning, I was popping the pepto bismal chewables-heartburn which I have only had one other time (at the end of my pregnancy). There was no guarantee we would even receive a referral off the list, but we were hopeful. Tuesday morning I took Bethany to church for mother's morning out, nervously bought soap and 75% of Valentine's conversaion hearts at Target, and then I went to Panera and got a fruit punch. Happy 16th Birthday Caleb!!

Happy 16th Birthday Caleb!! You are close to 5'5" and still growing. You finished 10th grade, and continued to rock it, excelling in a very challenging set of classes! You passed three more AP classes and several dual enrollment courses as well.  You were in the SAIL (AP Program), AP Capstone Club, Mu Alpha Theta (Math honor society), ASL Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Beta Club, and marching band. You placed third in the state for the Beta Convention Math Competition. You started a countywide club called BAM (Bay Area Mathematicians).  You are in your 11th year of playing piano and were accepted into the University of Florida International Piano Festival with partial scholarship and the FSU Piano Institute. You chose FSU for the third year. You were part of a masterclass with the Gulf Coast College Professors. You were chosen to perform at the Bay Education Foundation Arts Alive fundraiser dinner.  You were selected as the pianist for the all county band ...

Happy 17th Birthday Bethany!

  Happy 17th Birthday Bethany!!! You are about 5'2" but really you're like 5'1.5"! Small but mighty! You finished your junior year of high school and are entering your SENIOR YEAR!!! You had a very challenging academic course load but you soared and earned your AP Capstone diploma. You were part of a lot of clubs including one that you started called Kards for Kids that makes cards for kids in the hospital. You are also part of the SAIL program, AP Capstone, Mu Alpha Theta, Tri M, Science National Honor Society, National Honor Society, ASL Honor Society, and Next Gen. You were section leader this year for band and had a solo in the marching show. You earned a superior at district and state solo and ensemble and another superior for a duet at district solo ensemble. You made 2nd chair all county.  You continued to be a part of the Teen Outreach Committee with St. Andrew Bay Estuary. You were selected as one of your school's two nominees for Sunshine State Schol...
