·        Happy 12th Birthday Caleb!!


  • You are 58 inches tall.
  • You finished sixth grade and your first year of middle school. You started out the year doing virtual school due to COVID and went back in person in January.

  • You made all As this year and were inducted into Jr. Beta Club and Pre-Sail.
  • You are in your 7th year of piano lessons from Mrs. Emily and you play beautifully! You again participated in Student Day where you played two prepared pieces, scales, and sight reading, and an aural exam. You also took a music theory test. You received highest honors and an almost perfect score for your prepared pieces.

  • ·        You continue to love anything technology related- you love Roblox and are saving up for a virtual reality headset.

  • You still want to be a weatherman when you grow up.
  • You went through confirmation at church this year. 




  •  No surgery for you this year but you did start Invisalign which is going well.
  • Your favorite things to do are: play any type of technology, read, play games, be around your family, stay home, swim, and play piano.
  • You took the year off of Boy Scouts this year but are planning to rejoin in the fall.
  • Your birthday party this year was with a couple of friends who came over to play video games and then your small group Bible Study friends joined for swimming and pizza.
  • You like to watch the You Tube Channel It’s Funneh.
  • Your favorite foods are pizza, Utz party mix, spaghetti, and pancakes.
  • Trips and visits- We did several trips to see Grandma, Grandpa, and Uncle George in Lakeland, you and Bethany went to choir camp with Grandma and also spent the week at their house doing all kinds of fun things while Mom and Dad were on vacation. We went with Nana and Granddaddy for a fun week in Georgia with extended family including going four wheeling and celebrating Granddaddy's birthday. The Lebedevs came to visit and we had fun with them and Nana and Granddaddy going out to eat, playing games, and going to the beach. Nana’s sister and brother-in-law came to visit and we had fun with them too! We went to North Carolina for a joint trip with our friends- we went white water rafting, gem mining, zip lining, hiking, and to sliding rock, and we played Mafia every night.

We continue to be amazed by you! You are such a source of joy and fun in our family! You are so, so funny and keep us always laughing!! I can’t imagine anyone meeting you and not liking you because you’re just so kind and fun! You are smart, loving, helpful, cooperative, respectful, and you love the Lord. We are so thankful for you! Happy Birthday Caleb Shen Lai!!!

We knew all weeked that the new list was coming out on Monday night. I got more and more nervous as we got closer. By Tuesday morning, I was popping the pepto bismal chewables-heartburn which I have only had one other time (at the end of my pregnancy). There was no guarantee we would even receive a referral off the list, but we were hopeful. Tuesday morning I took Bethany to church for mother's morning out, nervously bought soap and 75% of Valentine's conversaion hearts at Target, and then I went to Panera and got a fruit punch. Happy 16th Birthday Caleb!!

Happy 16th Birthday Caleb!! You are close to 5'5" and still growing. You finished 10th grade, and continued to rock it, excelling in a very challenging set of classes! You passed three more AP classes and several dual enrollment courses as well.  You were in the SAIL (AP Program), AP Capstone Club, Mu Alpha Theta (Math honor society), ASL Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Beta Club, and marching band. You placed third in the state for the Beta Convention Math Competition. You started a countywide club called BAM (Bay Area Mathematicians).  You are in your 11th year of playing piano and were accepted into the University of Florida International Piano Festival with partial scholarship and the FSU Piano Institute. You chose FSU for the third year. You were part of a masterclass with the Gulf Coast College Professors. You were chosen to perform at the Bay Education Foundation Arts Alive fundraiser dinner.  You were selected as the pianist for the all county band ...

  Happy 17th Birthday Bethany!!! You are about 5'2" but really you're like 5'1.5"! Small but mighty! You finished your junior year of high school and are entering your SENIOR YEAR!!! You had a very challenging academic course load but you soared and earned your AP Capstone diploma. You were part of a lot of clubs including one that you started called Kards for Kids that makes cards for kids in the hospital. You are also part of the SAIL program, AP Capstone, Mu Alpha Theta, Tri M, Science National Honor Society, National Honor Society, ASL Honor Society, and Next Gen. You were section leader this year for band and had a solo in the marching show. You earned a superior at district and state solo and ensemble and another superior for a duet at district solo ensemble. You made 2nd chair all county.  You continued to be a part of the Teen Outreach Committee with St. Andrew Bay Estuary.
